The final game of the ‘Send-off Series’ for the U.S. Women’s team took place at the Red Bull Arena with the team facing Mexico in their last friendly before travelling to France for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. The home side were eager to leave the comforts of home soil on the back of a positive result, lending the next instalment of our ‘Framed’ series extra impetus.

After having more than 35,000 fans at the most recent game against South Africa in St. Louis, the USWNT this time around were in front of another large crowd at the Red Bull Arena, and the near capacity crowd were in good spirits as they prepared to bid the team farewell, vocalising the support of the nation. The United States have won their past five games in succession and came into the game unbeaten in their past eight, losing only once since July 2017. Good omens for the team ahead of the summer.

Standing in the way of a clean sweep in the World Cup warm ups to date was a Mexican side that are striving to find some form, having lost all three of their friendlies since finishing fifth at the 2019 Cyprus Cup in March, scoring once and conceding seven times. Having lost three times to the U.S. in 2018, it was a tough task for the Mexicans. Contrasting fortunes, but could Mexico cause an upset?

Short answer is no. The match went much as the pre-game stats would suggest, with the USWNT strolling to a routine 3-0 victory for a stylish send-off. An early strike from Tobin Heath was followed by goals from substitutes Mallory Pugh and Christen Press, sealing the win and sending out an ominous message for potential opponents this summer: watch out world, the Americans are coming...
