Louis Vuitton is no stranger to the sporting world, and now, for the first time, the winners of the Ballon d’Or Trophy, which recognises the best male and female individual performers in football, will carry off their hardware in a bespoke LV case.
Anyone with more than a passing interest in the Rugby World Cup final this weekend may have seen the bespoke Trophy Trunk housing the esteemed Webb Ellis Cup and the fact that it was crafted by none other than Louis Vuitton. This is just one of the many trunks designed by the Maison for the world’s most prestigious sporting trophies, including the French Open, Davis Cup and Roland Garros’ Suzanne Lenglen Cup and Musketeers’ Cup for tennis, the Monaco Grand Prix in Formula One, the Larry O’Brien NBA, and, of course, the FIFA World Cup. Now you can add the coveted Ballon d’Or to their repertoire.
As part of its partnership with one of the world's greatest sporting events, Louis Vuitton has specially designed trophy trunks for the 2010, 2014, 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups, and now they add the Ballon d’Or.
Each trunk is handcrafted by Louis Vuitton’s master artisans in Asnières, just outside Paris. The two trunks have come to life thanks to partnership between Louis Vuitton, France Football and Amaury Media, and they are accessed via two front panels, which together form a gold V, doubling up in meaning as “Victory” and “Vuitton.” A single drawer lined with soft microfibre allows storage of personal items, while an embroidered Ballon d’Or logo provides a flourish of branding.
The exterior is then covered in LV’s signature lozine, an expensive material which has a similar feel to leather. The trim is treated to the signature all-over monogram print, and all the corners, locks and clamps are finished with the same brass that the French fashion house has used in their trunks for more than 160 years.
