Continuing to assert their position as one of the best dressed clubs in the world, AIK launch their’Royal Edition’ jersey. The limited edition preseason jersey arrives as the latest stunning kit design from the Swedish club, and all proceeds from sales will go to Swedish sports camp.
AIK have a recent history of absolutely outstanding shirt designs, and they now continue that trend with the ‘Royal Edition’ 2022 preseason jersey. But more than just asserting their position as style royalty, the ‘Royal Edition’ is about giving something back. See, AIK was created way back in 1891 with the mission to give all people the right to play sports, and that idea still holds strong in the club today. In AIK’s eyes, to be able to train and play a sport is a human right, and that applies to everyone. That’s why all of the proceeds from the AIK ‘Royal Edition’ preseason jersey are being donated to Stadium Sports Camp, which is a nonprofit organisation with the mission to give kids access to movement and sport.
The jersey itself arrives in a deep royal blue colour, based on the blue colour in the club’s crest. This is unique in AIK’s history because the blue has never before been used for official match jerseys or other designs. On the jersey’s chest, there is a map of Stockholm which pays homage to AIK’s home city, and the fact that it’s a club for all of Stockholm, even if Solna and the blue line lie extra close to the heart. The club’s crest is elevated and embroidered on a base of thick blue velvet and the club name is found across the chest in gold. The jersey also has yellow and golden details.
Then there’s that Nike logo. Such a subtle detail, but so sweetly executed, with the Nike wording riding across the Swoosh.
The jersey certainly has a royal feel to it, but AIK are keen to stress that it comes with a twist; where royalty is often associated with elitism, power and money, the club say that all AIK fans are kings and queens, as acting Club Director Fredrik Söderberg explains: “To be king or queen is less about position and more about attitude. Every AIK fan is royal in their way of being. From players in the A-league to the kid’s teams, volunteers, leaders and supporters. Regardless of who you are or where you come from. Everyone has a black and yellow heart that pumps royal blue blood. That is the theme of this year’s preseason jersey.”
Limited to just 131 pieces, matching the number of years since the club was formed, the AIK 'Royal Edition' preseason jersey will be available from 1 March at prodirectsoccer.com
