Over the last four weeks Nike has dropped each of its current lineup of football boots with a retro paint job inspired by some of the most iconic boots from its rich back catalogue, and this has got concept designers to thinking of what they’d like to see. And Berlin-based designers Lumo723 have caught our attention once again, with the stunning Nike Phantom VNM in the style of the Air Zoom T90 III.

Nike are very forward thinking as a brand, always looking to the future with their designs. So the recent release of the ‘Future DNA’ pack, which saw the Swoosh’s current line-up wrapped in iconic looks from past, was an absolute treat. The pack saw the PhantomVSN wrapped up as the OG Hypervenom, the Mercurial Vapor 13 decked out to look like the OG Superfly, the PhantomVNM adopting the T90 2002 Nike Air Zoom Total 90 II look, and the Tiempo Legend VIII painted to look like the Tiempo Legend IV Elite from 2011. And it’s the PhantomVNM that is the focus of Concept designers Lumo723.

Lumo723 is made up of Lukas Urbicht and Moritz Rose, two Berlin-based concept designers who have caught our attention in the past for their wild takes on boots. And they've done it again, producing the  Nike Phantom VNM in the style of the Air Zoom T90 III from 2004. The design sees the striking circled T90 once again placed on the outstep, just like the original, with a corresponding colourway.

Now whilst we’re by no means arguing with Nike’s choice of the iconic 2002 Nike Air Zoom T90 II – our personal favourite from the strong ‘Future DNA’ lineup – we’re equally as impressed by the look of the Air Zoom T90 III on the PhantomVNM canvas. A possibility for season two of the Future DNA series if Nike ever decides to do it? Here’s hoping…
