Looking to bring focus to causes that both the brand and their athletes believe in, New Balance have produced a special edition version of the Furon v6+, which the brands biggest names will wear in their games this weekend.
Through an impressive recruitment drive over the last 12 months, New Balance have amassed quite the roster of star names, and now they are utilising that roster to highlight a new campaign. Raheem Sterling, Sadio Mané, Bukayo Saka, Eberechi Eze and Timothy Weah are all set to take to the pitch this weekend in their respective matches in boots designed in support of “My Story Matters”, the brand’s community action programme. Harvey Elliott, who continues his recovery from injury, will also be supporting the programme.
The My Story Matters initiative aims to celebrate black achievements in sport, music, and culture, in addition to providing economic resources to help support black communities. As part of the initiative, each player will make a donation to support a cause of their choice.
So to the boots themselves then. It’s the Furon v6+, presented in an off white base, with the ‘NB’ branding flashing through the forefoot, as usual. But a closer look at that branding shows the words ‘My Story Matters’ repeated throughout, lending the boots a nice, premium finish that ties in with the campaign. Then the heel is wrapped in purple, with a floral graphic lying within. It provides the perfect platform for the ‘My Story Matters’ wording to appear again, bigger and bolder, and bringing the message home. There's no word on whether this particular model will be available for retail, but we're guessing not.
