With his club career sort of sorted for the short term, Kylian Mbappe gets his latest signature edition Air Zoom Mercurial Superfly IX from Nike, and this one is based around the Frenchman giving back the "pleasure in playing”, which is presented through some strong visual elements inspired by comic book art.

Away from the politics that surround footballers at the top of the game, and these players just want to play, simple as that. Nowhere is this arguably more applicable at present than with Kylian Mbappe, for whom there is always a headline story surrounding his future, without a ball even being kicked. But the World Cup winner is also quite capable of writing his own headlines on the pitch, and he’ll be looking to do just that in his latest signature edition boot from Nike, which looks to focus on the joy of the game.

Inspired by his blistering speed and also his love of comic books, the Nike Air Zoom Mercurial Superfly IX ‘Mbappe’ edition has a predominantly blue base, using two different tones (official colourway is “Baltic Blue/White”, but that’s merely scratching the surface of this boot). Upon that canvas is then an array of graphics, the most notable of which is the “ZOOM” wording that sits under the yellow Swoosh on the lateral side, and the “Swoosh” wording that rides on the stylised Swoosh branding on the medial side, which sits on top of the “AIR” wording – sounds busy, and it is, but with the comic book-styled execution, it all just works.

The “KM” sign off sits on the heel, while a further flash of yellow can be found on the soleplate in that Air Zoom unit.

As well as Mbappe's preferred Superfly model, this new design is also available on the Air Zoom Mercurial Vapor XV, ensuring the option is still there for those that prefer playing without a collar. A wider apparel collection will also support the boot's release.
