Another player wearing a discontinued boot in the football league over the New Year period was Danny Mayor. The Bury man opted for the 'Battle Pack' edition of the adidas F50 adizero – a design launched and worn throughout the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

The adidas Predator Precision was one of the standout limited edition boots from 2017 as the Three Stripes brought back the iconic silo. The re-released Precision didn't get much on-pitch time due to its limited availability, but Wigan's Nick Powell gave them a run out this week.

Eden Hazard (Chelsea) Nike Mercurial Flyknit Ultra

Eden Hazard was only down to wear the Nike Mercurial Flyknit Ultra for a handful of games to support the limited edition release, but the Belgian has remained in them for the rest of the year. The fact that a leading player such as Hazard supports the new technology will no doubt result in a more prominent role in for the 2018 Mercurial plans.

James Ward-Prowse (Southampton) Nike Tiempo 7

James Ward-Prowse looks to be available after his contract with adidas expired early this season. The Southampton midfielder had previously worn a blacked-out edition of the ACE 16, before briefly moving into the new Predator indicating a new deal with adidas. But that hasn't proved to be the case, as he's more recently switched into a blackout of the Nike Tiempo 7.

Anthony Stokes was sporting the "Bright Mango" edition of the Nike T90 Laser IV over Christmas. The Hibs striker has reverted back to a boot that was originally launched in 2011 after beginning the season in the Tiempo 7.

With PSG on a winter break Neymar debuted his signature Nike Mercurial Puro Fenomeno during the charity football match 'Ball Hunger Only' in Sao Paulo over Christmas.
