Mesut Ozil's M10 x Hide & Jack Unveil 'The Cage' Sneaker

Mesut Ozil’s M10 brand has hooked up with Italian contemporary sneaker house, Hide & Jack to produce ‘The Cage’: a shoe designed to celebrate the German’s childhood and personal story, with all the profits from the sales being donated to help children affected by the Covid-19 crisis in Italy.

With a bit of time on his hands, Mesut Ozil has been focusing on developing his M10 brand recently, and back in July a new partnership with Hide & Jack was announced. For those not in the know, Hide & Jack were founded in 2014 by the two brothers, Alberto and Nicola Franceschi. The brand is inspired by the classic novel “The Strange case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”, taking the duality at the heart of the story and applying it to their contemporary collections, emphasising the fact that each style of dress can hide a double personality.

It’s a unique approach and obviously one that appealed to Ozil, with the first fruits of his M10 collaboration with the brand being produced, with the launch of ‘The Cage’: a sneaker born to celebrate Ozil’s childhood and story, creating an emotional and personal connection with his past.

In line with his strong support for good causes and charitable work, profit from the sales of The Cage will be donated to tutticonnessi.it, with the aim to give a contribution towards Covid-19 in Italy.

As for the shoe itself, the colour combination of dark blue and white leather was chosen to recall the city of Gelsenkirchen, where the Arsenal midfielder was born and raised. On the heel, a gold net was designed to represent the ‘monkey cage’, a small football pitch without grass where he started to play football, forging his long-lasting love affair with the sport. The Cage has been entirely hand made in Italy by Hide & Jack’s artisans, using the best selection of Italian leather with the brand’s signature croco print. The strobel construction guarantees an exceptional comfort and flexibility, while the lining in calfskin is synonymous with comfort and durability.
