Liverpool’s new kit deal with Nike could potentially see them forced into having to travel further than they initially planned as part of their pre-season preparations ahead of the 2020/21 season. The Reds had reportedly been eyeing up some European friendlies, however they may once again have to head Stateside or even to Asia with Nike looking to capitalise on support for their latest elite club.
After a court battle against current technical partners New Balance, Liverpool officially announced their new lucrative partnership with Nike. But the deal may also bring with it other ramifications that specifically impact on Jurgen Klopp’s pre-season plans. Having travelled to the United States in three of the four summers in which Jurgen Klopp has been in charge, Liverpool reportedly had plans to only take part in friendlies in Europe this summer, although nothing had been finalised just yet.
But now a third possibility has presented itself in the form of a trip to Asia. A glamorous friendly in China could well be an option for Liverpool as they seek to expand their fanbase in the area after entering into business with kit manufacturers Nike. The American brand saw its sales in China grow by as much as 27 percent in 2018, and they will see Liverpool as being perfectly placed to continue to exploit such an increase.
