The tragic death of Kobe Bryant was a loss felt around the world, but no where more than in Los Angeles, where the great man forged his unrivalled reputation. This weekend, in memory of the Lakers legend LA Galaxy took to the pitch for their first home game of the season with a special commemorative patch that honoured his legacy.

Over the weekend LA Galaxy took to the Dignity Health Sports Park field for the first time this season, taking on Vancouver Whitecaps in what ended up being a 1-0 loss for the home team. But aside from the result, the Galaxy took the occasion as an opportunity to pay homage to one of LA’s favourite sons, Kobe Bryant, with a special 'KB' patch featuring on their jerseys and captain's armband in honour of the legendary Basketball star.

The patch, designed and worn by the Los Angeles Lakers, was displayed on the right side of the new 2020 EQT jersey, above the adidas emblem. Following the game, the match jerseys were put up for auction, with all proceeds set to benefit the MambaOnThree Fund, which exists to honour and support the loved ones of the seven other victims involved in the tragedy that occurred on 26 January, 2020.
