Continuing the drip of third shirt releases throughout Europe, Nike launch the Atlético Madrid 2019/20 third shirt. The design once again has a heavy 90s-influence, with a squared-off collar and Nike Fututura logo topping up the retro aesthetic.

The design for Nike’s third shirts for the 2019/20 season has seen a joyous return to the 90s, with over-sized collars, bright and bold block colouring, and of course, the return of the Futura logo, and the Atletico Madrid shirt follows suit, not disappointing on any of the above beats. The return of the light blue shade, which was famously worn by the club during their successful period in the 90s, adds to the allure for Atletico fans. “Everybody knows about the moments of success for our club during that era,” explained midfielder Saúl Ñiguez. “The fans will enjoy this colour being brought back. It’s nice to see how the design gives it that 90s feel.

The design uses a similar template to the Chelsea third shirt, with the squared-off collar, which comes in a contrasting navy along with the cuffs, standing out thanks to an elevated trim. For that added individual feel, seven stars — borrowed from Madrid’s coat of arms — are printed across the neckline. 

The shirt then features the club’s nickname, "Atleti," woven into the fabric in an electrifying all-over matte/shine jacquard. “Given the 1990s theme of the kit, light blue was the fitting choice,” said Pete Hoppins, Nike Football Apparel Senior Design Director. “I hope the fans enjoy its return this season.
