This weekend Fluminense gave their new third shirt from Umbro Brasil a debut to remember when they stole victory against Palmeiras at the death, through Yago Felipe’s second goal of the game, giving the hosts a 2-1 win.

Umbro Brasil unveiled the new Fluminense third shirt ahead of the club’s game against Palmeiras at the Maracanã on Sunday. The shirt was given a winning debut in dramatic fashion, when Yago Felipe slotted home in the 89th minute to seal the win over Palmeiras 2-1. There then followed what feels like in the Brazilian Serie A the obligatory flurry of stoppage time red cards, just to punctuate the drama. Three points sealed and delivered, and the new third shirt off to a flier.

Following the same premise as the Santos and Gremio third shirts, the design sees a diamond graphic that spreads across the shirt. The idea is two fold, with the diamond symbol obviously being representative of Umbro, but also the idea is that every diamond on the shirt represents a fan.

The shirt design has a further angle to it as well though, being presented in the grey that pays homage to the first shirt the club wore. The grey is presented in a two tone arrangement, which spreads across in an almost camo type print. That grey is then joined by maroon, lifted straight from the club’s home shirt, and it pops through the crest, branding, sponsor and numbering.

Inside the shirt is a further nod to the fans, with an image that represents the importance of each one, particularly acknowledging the importance of their return to the stadium.

Another aesthetic element that enriches the shirt is the differentiated cut of the fabric, with the back length a little longer than the front, improving the fit both on and off the pitch.
