Real Madrid came into the the latest El Clásico on a high, on top of the La Liga table with a comfortable cushion, and recently having turned around their Champions League tie against PSG in emphatic fashion to advance to the quarter finals. They were also dressed for the occasion in their new celebratory fourth kit from Y-3…

So as debuts go Real Madrid’s new fourth shirt from Y-3, celebrating both the club’s 120th anniversary and the 20th year of the collaborative partnership between Yohji Yamamoto and adidas, could’ve gone better to say the least. A 0-4 humbling at the hands of bitter rivals Barcelona in Santiago Bernabeu in the latest El Clásico could well see this special edition remembered as a sign of mourning, with Los Blancos dressed head to toe in black.

The new fourth kit arrived as the headline piece from a wider collection, but for the on-pitch look the “hand painted” numbers and names that were shown off on its launch were replaced by the standard variations to ensure it adhered to La Liga regulations. The kit was also joined by a warm up top, which is complemented by the Light Shell Anthem Jacket and Pants – both boasting reflective prints and laser cut details.

The Y-3 kit was offset with Barcelona's Senyera kit, originally released way back in 19/20 but still being used by the Catalan club. It certainly gave El Clásico a different look to normal.

Whether Real choose to wear the kit again is not yet known. Tough decision though: do you leave the kit to forever be tainted by that defeat, or do you try and salvage it in the coming weeks? Time will tell, but the loss doesn’t take away from the fact that this is still a clean kit and collection.
