Extending the club’s appeal in the Asian market and providing something for their fans in the East, Chelsea have released a ‘Year of the Dragon’ collection, which will be worn by both the men’s and women’s teams ahead of their respective matches this weekend.

Support from Asia can not be underestimated, particularly for the Premier League, and this factor has seen plenty of European teams releasing special collections in celebration of the Chinese New Year over the last few seasons. This year it’s the Year of the Dragon, and Chelsea and Nike have produced a special prematch collection in which the mythical creature features prominently on the club’s traditional blue base.

The dragon is highly symbolic in Asian culture, representing strength, good fortune and power. Those born in the Year of the Dragon are believed to inherit the dragon's positive traits of charisma, intelligence and courage.

To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, the Chelsea players will don exclusively designed pre-match tops when warming up on the pitch before this weekend’s games – for the men that’s ahead of their game against Wolves at Stamford Bridge, while for the women, it’s Everton at Kingsmeadow.

The dragon is designed with traditional Chinese calligraphy technique, with sharp and clean edges, capturing its powerful and auspicious nature as it ushers in the new year with good fortune.

The Nike Year of the Dragon Collection features a short-sleeve pre-match top (men’s sizes only) and a long-sleeve quarter-zip drill top (men’s, women’s and kids’ sizes). The tops feature an exclusive Year of the Dragon crest on the chest and a unique illustration of the dragon on the back. The dragon features in addition to the branding of club partners Nike and trivago.
