The hottest drop of the year so far triggered a manic scramble this morning as punters battled to snap up one of just 333 pairs worldwide. With the dust now settled we're ahead of the gold rush to take a closer look at the Nike Mercurial Superfly CR7 "Rare Gold".

Blink and you missed them. Each prestigious pair of "Rare Gold" Limited Editions were bagged within minutes of being released by Nike Football and we've got our dirty mitts on a pair to showcase what you missed, or hopefully, to see what the postman's sending your way soon.

The background: Launched to mark Cristiano Ronaldo's third Ballon d'Or success Nike created a signature celebratory Superfly IV worn exclusively by the main man on the back of the awards ceremony in January. Since CR7 laced them up himself collectors impatiently waited for Nike to release a limited run, which arrived this morning 20.02 and sold out a matter of minutes later. Those of you in the US fear not, a number of the boots have been held back and will be released in the States in March.

Some description

Each pair of the "Rare Gold" CR7 Superfly boots is marked with a unique number from 1 to 333 on the heel but unlike Cristiano's own pair the 333 pairs released do not feature the micro-diamonds embedded into the 'CR7' logo and use a standard black Dynamic Fit Collar rather than Ronaldo's lower-cut version. Fair to say Nike's 2015 limited edition game begins on-point.
