Arriving as the third version since its launch late last year, Mizuno has revealed a new colourway for The Alpha, the brand’s newest silo. The lightweight speed boot is given a lowkey “Black/Ignition Red” paint job, offering appeal for those that like their innovation under the radar.

The all-new Mizuno Alpha dropped in the latter half of last year, just ahead of the World Cup and without too much fanfare. The result of the brand's world-famous Japanese innovation, the boot put a firm focus on speed, loaded with tech features, and yet in a light weight package that saw it clock in at just 195g. That launch look was followed up a few weeks later by an inline version released as part of the ‘Azure Blue’ pack for Qatar 2022. And now it gets a sleek solo refresh for its third outing.

The Alpha is a straight-up lightweight speed boot, but it’s not just the light weight nature of the boot that makes it fast. Mizuno Enerzy foam (no, it’s not a typo) has been included to provide enhanced cushioning and energy return, while the Engineered Fit woven construction offers a perfect fit. It’s a step away from the traditional leather that Mizuno are so synonymous with, being totally synthetic, but it provides a nice contrasting option to the Morelia Neo, which still features leather in its innovative design.

For this third run out, it takes on an oily black base that has a certain iridescent shimmer about it. The RunBird logo features hints of red and blue as it stretches from forefoot to heel down both sides of the boot, fading on its underside for a contemporary take on the iconic look, and one that lends itself perfectly to the progressive nature of this new silo.
