PUMA and Pro:Direct Soccer pair up once again for the retail brand’s 25th anniversary, and this time it’s for Legacy of Speed: a special edition drop that features a combination of graphics lifted from PUMA’s fastest boots throughout the years.

Pro:Direct Soccer’s 25th anniversary celebrations have seen an impressive array of special edition drops throughout the year, with the online retailer collaborating with some of the biggest sporting brands in the world. Chief among those brands has been PUMA, who have already produced the Future x PowerCat ‘Tokyo’ back in April, and more recently the “75 + 25” set of King Top and King Ultimate. Now, the focus shifts to speed, with a special, limited edition version of the Ultra Ultimate, completing PUMA’s three silo setup and rounding off the brand’s contributions to the 25th anniversary in style.

The ‘Legacy of Speed’ collection delves into PUMA’s deep-rooted connection with pace, selecting graphical elements from some of their fastest boots over the years to create an amalgamated design that’s sure to catch the eye as it blurs past on the pitch. The boots selected for the design are the Ultra 1.1 ‘Chasing Adrenaline’, evoSpeed 1.3 ‘Africa’, evoSpeed 1.3 ’Dragon’, evoSpeed ‘Razzle Dazzle’, evoSpeed1.3 Tricks ‘Celebration Pack’, v1.06 ‘Unseen Green’, evoSpeed 1.2 ‘Camo’ and v1.815 x Ferrari, all combining for a properly unique presentation.

The collection sees the Ultra Ultimate riding in in three presentations: an ultra special edition that’s gilded in gold and limited to just 98 pairs, a slightly less limited edition version that sees most of the gold elements subbed out for black, and finally a wider release that features a heavier influence of red on the overall aesthetic.

Focussing on the premium pick of the pack, and it comes in an official colourway of “White/Red/Black/Gold/Hero Blue”, but that really is only touching on the story contained within. The details lifted from the previously mentioned historic boots feature across the construction here, from the details on the upper and the soleplate, right through to the insole. This is a real collectors piece, make no mistake about it.

The gold edging, noticeable in the soleplate, on the heel, and bordering the formstripe really leans into the premium nature of this version, while the regular edition still features hints of gold, just in a slightly more restricted role, featuring on teh dual branding on the heel. The shimmering soleplate is also switched out for a feel that may be more suited to the pitch rather than the display cabinet.
