What's going on here then? Nike's lead Hypervenom man put on a rebellious show against Celta Vigo last night by switching out of the silo he's become the face of and into the Mercurial Vapor X.
It's a move than will no doubt have Nike worried for the image of their new generation silo. The Swoosh have invested millions in the Hypervenom series and the whole concept and marketing strategy of the silo has been based around 'a new breed of attack' the next generation of fleet footed forwards, which Neymar encapsulates perfectly. We can rule out Nike orchestrating this switch so that leaves the decision down to the player himself.
We've often seen players switch boots to protect an injury but with the Hypervenom offering more robust protection than the Vapor X we can't see that being a logical explanation. Neymar did wear the Vapor X in training this week and perhaps he just liked what he saw, either way we're sure he woke up to a couple of missed calls from the brand this morning. Hell, he might just like pink, who doesn't? If he's a superstitious man we can expect to see him back in the Hypervenom at the weekend after Barca were hammered 4-1 at Celta Vigo.
Strange one. Got an explanation? Drop it below.
