The EFL Cup gave Wayne Rooney his first opportunity to lace up in the special edition Nike Hypervenom “WR250” boots as Manchester United travelled to the KCOM Stadium to take on Hull City in their second leg semi-final tie.
We all know that feeling of stepping out in a new pair of boots. Now imagine those shiny whites you’re looking down at were given to you for becoming the all-time leading goal scorer of the biggest football club in England. Of course, there’s only one man who knows that feeling.
Unveiled last week following Wayne Rooney's monumental achievement of reaching 250 Manchester United goals, the Nike Hypervenom “WR250” were given their first run out this week as Rooney came off the bench in United’s bitter sweet 2-1 defeat to Hull City that saw them book their spot in the EFL Cup final at Wembley with a 3-2 aggregate win.
It’s unknown how many times we’ll see Rooney lace up in his celebratory boots. A home run-out at Old Trafford this weekend in the FA Cup, with United taking on Wigan Athletic, might be all we see of the boots before he hangs them up in favour for the updated Nike Hypervenom Phantom 3.
The Nike Hypervenom "250" boots feature the colors Rooney dons for both club and country. To highlight Rooney’s new record, a special logo was created featuring a crown and his record breaking number on the tongue of the boot. "WR10", in reference to his squad number, is featured on the side of the boot. Additionally, the detailing of the aglets was also inspired by both the colors of his club and country.
