In amongst the vibrant colourways on show at Borussia Dortmund training this morning, there was one player sporting a blackout of serious significance. Has Alexander Isak provided a first look at the next chapter of adidas Football footwear?
Let's get a few facts straight before we dive in to the details. Alexander Isak is an adidas player. This boot isn't the next generation of ACE. Nor is it the next generation of X. So, what we're looking at here is a new adidas project for 2017/2018. A completely fresh silo that's currently in the player feedback phase ahead of being launched at the end of the current season and into 2018 ― a World Cup year no less.
Adidas are constantly supplying their players with new materials to test on blackout boots, including tweaks to their existing models, but the boot in question is sure to be a new release from the brand. Whilst there have been unconfirmed reports on a new adidas boot for this year, the Three Stripes remain tight-lipped on any official details.
On first inspection the blacked out boot has taken on a unique silhouette, most notably around the ankle construction. The heightened collar is visibly adjusted and repositioned and three solid block stripes place themselves on the midfoot. Whilst Isak's boots feature laces on the upper, it's easy to assume adidas will also release a laceless edition of the silo that will arrive as the top tier model of the series.
Isak has been contracted to adidas since his breakthrough last season. The 17-year-old forward, who became Sweden's youngest ever goalscorer in January, signed for Borussia Dortmund from AIK’s for €10m at the turn of the year and has been selected to test the blackout boot, suggesting adidas could be lining up a fresh squad of upcoming strikers to front the collection.
