Paulo Dybala's match-winning performance against Barcelona last night has kick-started the race for his signature after the Argentine forward made headlines in his blacked-out Nike Mercurial Superfly V boots in Juventus' 3-0 win.
Dybala's contract with Nike expired in February 2017 and since then the Juve man has been laced up in a blacked-out edition of the Superfly as he weighs up his next move. Dybala has been available to discuss options with other brands since his contract with the Swoosh ended but his heroics against Barca will have sparked negotiations into life between potential suitors – with Nike, adidas and Under Armour the front-runners for his signature.
The Argentina international has recently unveiled his new signature logo inspired by his mask celebration and clearly packs the confidence and seeks the recognition that a leading brand could offer him to raise his profile. After all, what self respecting professional footballer doesn't have a signature logo these days? The eagle-eyed viewer would have spotted aforementioned logo customised onto the black upper of his boots last night.
When it comes to potential brands to join, it appears to be a three way race. Nike will hope to lure him back into an unblindfolded boot that he's already comfortable in. Under Armour are very much in the market for a leading player after Memphis Depay's struggles at Manchester United – could Dybala be tempted by the main-man status that Under Armour have given Basketball's Steph Curry? Or will adidas try to lure him into the Three Stripes? We already know they have a next-generation of football footwear coming to release this year, with a number of young attacking players already spotted in prototypes. Take your pick, son.
