Lionel Messi slipped into a blacked out edition of an upcoming adidas silo this week to confirm that he's at the forefront of adidas' next-generation plans. Numerous players have already been spotted in the silhouette, but Messi's inclusion will ultimately result in the Barcelona man headlining the unreleased silo.
Just weeks after debuting his latest signature adidas MESSI 16.1 boots, question marks have surrounded the Messi boot series as the man himself laced up in the all new silo as Barcelona trained ahead of their 3-2 win against Real Sociedad at the Camp Nou. The next-generation of adidas football footwear approaches in sync with the end of the current football season and adidas are packing alternative plans for their most prized asset. Although, the Three Stripes are remaining tight-lipped on any official details at present.
The boots Messi is wearing here are the same editions that have previously been spotted on the feet of Borussia Dortmund youngster Alexander Isak. Sitting away from the ACE and X generations, the unreleased silo is a new project for 2017/18 as adidas begin to look ahead to the 2018 World Cup in Russia. A fresh silo with a completely redesigned silhouette. The fact that Messi has been selected to front the collection points at the boot being based on attacking play as adidas aim to turn up the heat in front of goal this summer with a number of updated technologies.
A laceless version of the boot has also surfaced, and will unsurprisingly feature as the leading product but Messi will favour the laced edition as he does with his current signature boot. On first inspection the blackout silhouette features an all new shape, most notably on the ankle construction, while a heightened collar is present but adjusted and repositioned in comparison to adidas' current X and ACE editions.
The trademark Three Stripes are placed on the midfoot of the one-piece constructed upper which will be a stand alone silo and not currently part of the Control and Chaos collections. The next chapter of adidas Football is slowly being revealed but you can expect the brand to have a fair few surprises up their sleeves as the 2017/18 season creeps ever closer.
