Alvaro Morata joins the Champagne game ahead of Real Madrid's Champions League semi-final second leg on Wednesday night. With the adidas Predator Mania Champagne re-launch landing as the most anticipated release of 2017 it's come as no surprise that a handful of professional players have been keen to lace up in the limited edition throwback design.
The original adidas Predator Mania Champagne was launched back in 2002 – when Morata was 9-years-old – just about old enough to be swept in by the Mania hype generated by Beckham, Zidane, Raul et al, and certainly old enough to count the Mania amongst his first ever football boots. Training ahead of Real Madrid's trip across town to Atletico on Wednesday, Morata switched out of his usual adidas X series and into the famous Predator Mania colourway. A boot that his Real Madrid team-mate James Rodriguez infamously leaked back in 2016.
Morata isn't the first pro to wear the re-released Champagne Mania; Bayern Munich duo Phillip Lahm and Xabi Alonso both sported the design, complete with trademark fold-over tongue against Darmstadt at the weekend. But, if Morata does stay in the limited edition boot for Wednesday night's game then he'll become the first player to wear them in the Champions League. Fifteen years old and looking straight back at home. Sharp.
Phillip Lahm has also got hold of the limited edition adidas Predator Mania Champagne.
