Since the launch of the adidas ACE 17+ Purecontrol in November 2016 the X series has been patiently waiting for a next-generation update. That wait is now over. Ahead of a scheduled Champions League Final debut, the X 17.1 appeared on the feet of Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata as his side aim to clinch a famous double in the coming weeks.
EURO 2016 saw the birth of the adidas X 16 series, and after 12 months in the spotlight the speed silo has been taken into the adidas garage for a stylish service. We've already seen numerous adidas players training in an unreleased blackout silhouette which sits away from the X and ACE silo and now the 2017/18 adidas boot line-up becomes even clearer with a first look at the X 17.1.
Morata becomes one of the first players to switch into the X 17.1 collection that will be headlined by a lace-covered X 17+ option, in a similar style to the current generation boot. Subtle design changes come into play including a new upper that features a dotted pattern and flows more naturally into the collar than the previous edition. Aesthetically you're looking at oversized X branding on the instep and corresponding adidas performance logo on the outside.
Landing as the first official colourway and part of the next adidas on-pitch collection, Morata's adidas X 17.1 football boots are blasted in a modest all grey paint job with splashes of energetic blue on the branding and detailing – a combination that will complement the Real Madrid home strip almost perfectly. No official tech news has been released by the Three Stripes as of yet, but with the countdown to Cardiff very much on, so is the countdown to the release of the adidas X 17 series.
