Under Armour are on the verge of joining the laceless party in their own unique style as Memphis Depay slipped into their brand new upcoming concept to train with the Netherlands ahead of their World Cup Qualifiers this week.
Set to land as the next-generation of the Spotlight series, the unreleased Under Armour boot is dressed with unique innovations as the American brand put their own spin on how a laceless football boot should work. The most intriguing feature of the boot is what appears to be a zip construction running down the top of the foot instead of laces; an incredible first for a football boot, and a feature that Under Armour can own and develop moving forward.
That zipped upper is likely to feature a second layer beneath, where the boot can be tightened and adjusted, meaning the zip design is more of a cover that provides a cleaner striking area. For now though, this is all speculation as Under Armour have yet to reveal any official technology details – all we know is that this Spotlight update will carry the brand into the 2017/18 season and towards the 2018 World Cup.
The launch colourway of the boot is drenched in a two-tone block of black and green for a strong debut on a boot that will no doubt attract attention for its technology alone. The fact that Memphis Depay has jumped straight into the first colourway rather than a blackout design indicates a launch of the next-generation Under Armour Spotlight isn't too far away. Yeah, zips.
