A welcome return of domestic action has given us all we need for yet another round of Boot Spotting, with the latest releases, throwback classics and custom creations all rounded up for your viewing pleasure. Ready? Let’s go…
Ricardo Quaresma (Kasımpasa S.K.) Nike Mercurial Superfly VII
Ahead of its official launch, Portuguese veteran Ricardo Quaresma, now plying his trade in Turkey for Kasımpaşa, wore the Mercurial Superfly VII from Nike's Terra Pack in his side's 2-1 defeat to Gençlerbirliği. The latest release from Nike saw the Mercurial, in both Superfly and Vapor forms, joining force with the PhantomVNM for a two silo, three style pack.
Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund) PUMA Future 5.1
Borussia Dortmund skipper, Marco Reus wore the PUMA Future 5.1 'Flash Pack' in his side's 3-3 draw against Paderborn this week, scoring a stoppage time equaliser to rescue a point. But what was particularly interesting was that the German opted to wear his boots without any laces, despite the fact that the NetFit system offers a customisable setup.
Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City) Nike PhantomVSN 2
We've already had a sneak peek at Nike's upgrade for the PhantomVSN on the feet of Real Madrid's Dani Carvajal this week, but one of the silo's long-time advocates, Kevin De Bruyne has now slipped it on for a test run. First impressions suggest that most of the upgrade on this next-gen boot will take place on the upper and specifically on the inside, focussing on the fit.
Keisuke Honda (Vitesse) Mizuno Rebula 3
Keisuke Honda changed into the 'Brazilian Spirit' Mizuno Rebula 3 for his side's 2-0 loss to Sparta this week. The Rebula 3 landed alongside the Morelia Neo 2 in Mizuno's 'Brazilian Spirit' pack, which paid homage to some of the greatest Brazilians to wear the brand.
Tomoaki Makino (Urawa Reds) adidas F50 Adizero
Urawa Reds took on Al-Hilal in the second leg of the AFC Champions League final this week, and defender Tomoaki Makino dressed for the occasion, wearing different colourways of the adidas F50 Adizero from 2015 on each foot, with the "Solar Red" on his left and the "Core Black/Silver" on his right. Sadly it was not enough, with the Japanese side losing 2-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate.
Hakan Calhanoglu (AC Milan) adidas Predator Mania
Hakan Calhanoglu is always one to keep an eye on for his special boot choices in training, and this week was no different, with the Turkish international stepping out in the adidas Predator Mania Champagne re-release from 2017.
Nuno Da Costa (Strasbourg) Nike Hypervenom Phantom
Strasbourg strolled to a 4-0 victory over 10-man Amiens in Ligue 1 this week, with Nuno Da Costa helping himself to the fourth of the romp. And he did so in the rather eye-catching Hypervenom Phantom I from 2013. It was one of the original launch colours for the then new silo, and it landed as part of Nike's Hi-Vis collection.
Chris Lines (Northampton Town) adidas Predator LZ II
Chris Lines is a familiar face on Boot Spotting, with the Northampton Town man's love for a throwback Predator often catching our eye. This week he pulled on the "Black/Multicoloured" Predator LZ II, which was originally released in 2014 alongside another equally eye-catching design, which Lines wore back in March 2018 during his Bristol Rovers days.
Ethan Robson (Grimsby Town) Nike Mercurial Superfly VII
Also playing in that match, although for losing side Grimsby, was Ethan Robson, who got to show off his work on the Nike by You service, which he has used to rather smartly match up the colourings of his boots with his side's home kit. Good effort, that.
Gael Kakuta (Amiens) Nike Mercurial Superfly VII
Sure, Amiens were on the wrong side of a good old fashioned thumping this weekend, but on the bright side it gave Gael Kakuta the chance to show off his new Mercurial Superfly VII, which he has customised with his own choice of colourings and individual callouts on the Nike by You service.
Tom Lockyer (Wales) adidas Predator 19.1
An interesting bit of self customisation was spotted in the Wales v Hungary Euro qualifier, with defender Tom Lockyer wearing the adidas Predator 19.1 from the 'Encryption Pack', although the Charlton man had cut off the collar. The Predator is currently only available in a collared version, so maybe this is something adidas can bear in mind for the future.
