Real Madrid right back, Dani Carvajal has been spotted testing out what looks to be Nike’s next-generation PhantomVSN when he returned to domestic training following his exploits for Spain during the international break.

It’s been a busy spell for the Nike's Phantom twins, with what looks to be the next on-pitch colourway for the PhantomVNM being spotted on the feet of Spurs captain Harry Kane when he returned from international duty this week, and likewise, Dani Carvajal has changed things up a bit, debuting a blacked out prototype that’s likely to be the next generation PhantomVSN.

The PhantomVSN debuted back in July 2018, with Nike launching the new silo immediately after the World Cup final. It was originally brought in to replace the Magista, and it was joined by its partner in crime, the PhantomVNM, some six months later. So with almost 18 months since its initial launch it now seems that the VSN may be getting its first update.

As is always the case with blacked-out boots, it’s hard to see much in terms of new tech, but what we can see is that the soleplate doesn’t seem to have been altered all that much, suggesting that most of the change will come in the upper. A pull tab appears to have been added, while the Ghost Lace system still seems to be in place. Whether all of this suggests that the majority of the alterations take place on the inside of the boot, specifically with the QuadFit construction, remains to be seen.
