Erling Haaland’s boot future continues to be a hot topic, and now there’s more fuel for the speculation fire after the Dortmund hitman was spotted training in an Adidas X Speedflow .1 in an unreleased colourway.
Following a period out through injury, Erling Haaland is stepping up his rehab ready for a return to action. But while that in itself is a great story, the Norweigian’s boot choice in a recent training session is a whole other matter. His brand future has been under the microscope for some time now, after his contract with Nike expired back in January. Rumour was strong that PUMA were leading the race for his signature, then adidas seemed to steal pole position when Haaland met up with Zidane at adidas HQ in Herzogenaurach. But then he was seen training in the new Nike Dream Speed Mercurial back in February... Certainly keeping his options open it seemed.
And so we arrive at the latest development in this lengthening tale, and it's a fairly significant one. Haaland was spotted in an upcoming colourway for the adidas X Speedflow in a recent training session, suggesting that he is at the very least quite far down the negotiation route with the Three Stripes. The German brand are unlikely to roll out an unreleased colourway unless they were fairly confident.
Haaland did also switch out into Nike Mercurial Vapor 14 during the training session, but in the older ‘Motivation Pack’ colourway. This could well be due to the comfort and familiarity of the silo, changing back while he finds his feet in the X Speedflow.
Adidas are pushing hard to tie Haaland down to a long term deal, one that would see the player spearhead the brand into a fairer Ballon d'Or race against the other post-CR7/Messi generation frontman, Nike's Kylian Mbappé.
The race for his signature is one that we think adidas simply must win, and it seems they are now in the final stages of getting this one over the line. So does this mean Haaland to adidas is a done deal? While it certainly must be close we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see another twist in the tail.
