Cristiano Ronaldo kicked off his World Cup campaign wearing a modified version of the Nike Mercurial Superfly IV as 10-man Portugal were undone by a rampant German side in Salvador.
Ronaldo had been wearing the standard Superfly IV in training and in a friendly after returning from injury, a boot in which he starred heavily in the #RiskEverything film showcasing the new footwear. In the sessions building up to Portugal's opening World Cup game the Ballon d'Or winner was spotted wearing the low cut Mercurial Vapor X leading to speculation of what he would wear come kick off.
For some of the best players in the world Nike customises their boots based on certain personal specifications and for Ronaldo that specification looks to be on the Dynamic Fit collar as Nike have supplied their key man with a custom Superfly IV that feature a lower cut collar than the standard issues.
For Nike it was essential that their lead Superfly player laced up in the boot which he has become the face off. Maybe it's going to take a couple more training sessions for Ronaldo to get used to the new technology? But for the mean time Nike have met him half way by offering him a modified alternative.
