When the full time whistle blew on the 13th of July 2014 Germany became World Champions. The World Cup was over but for Paul Ripke that whistle marked the beginning of something special.
In the hours following Mario Götze's extra time winner German national team photographer Paul Ripke snapped every moment to capture the sheer exuberance and pure emotion shown by those involved in that famous night at the Maracanã. 'One Night in Rio' re-lives that night with every turn of the page for fans and players and is shot from the most personal of behind-the-scenes angles.
They say pictures speak a thousand words, and the book is over 400 pages of beautiful photography which does just that. The journey doesn't stop in Rio, Paul followed the team back to Berlin where the nation poured out onto the streets to welcome home their gallant heroes. Two editions of 'One Night in Rio' are on sale, both are available at shop.paulripke.de and Amazon with prices starting at €30.
We spoke further to Paul about that famous night in Issue 02 of the SoccerBible Magazine which you can pre-order here.
