There's a reason this game we call football gets billed as 'the beautiful game'. Sitting at the heart of every club and indeed, quite literally, on every kit, the club badge or crest is one of those iconic treasures that binds football teams together. One Kickstarter project that has set the fire in the belly going is 'The Football Crest Index'.
An independent publication that looks to "document the rich history of the greatest clubs in world football", this is a collectors item that has been fuelled by those passions where football meets design. Going the distance in telling the back story to many a crest, the book looks at the evolution of each badge and is a collective project that celebrates a game of strong aesthetics. Having enlisted an emphatic group of 47 designers, the brief for each one of them has been to produce original and exclusive artwork to sit alongside their clubs history. In turn, it's provided back to back pages of inspiration that has paved the way for work to commence on Volume 1, which will launch in time for the 17/18 Premier League season.
The first volume will feature the 47 clubs to this date who have blessed the Premier League since it all kicked off in 1992. From there, it goes galactic as the team behind the project look to chart teams from all over the world in follow up instalments. Having been backed with double the amount of the goal fund, the demand for such a book is testament to the idea. A fantastic showing of pure fandom with a heroic creative edge. Just the way we like it.
