The Superclásico is the mother of all derbies; fuelled by pure passion made of both equal parts love and hate, it is an event unto itself. Honouring the sheer prestige of the event, but also to two of its historic stars in Pablo Aimar and Juan Roman Riquelme, custom creatives Fokohaela have produced two bespoke jumpers, one for Boca Juniors, one for River Plate.

Few events in the world capture the raw emotion of football fans quite like the Superclásico. It sees Buenos Aires-based sides Boca Juniors and River Plate going toe-to-toe in front of hordes of passionate fans at either La Bombonera or El Monumental, creating iconic scenes that are recognised across the globe. And through this rivalry, players have risen to the good graces of the fans to be heralded as superstars. Players such as Pablo Aimar and Juan Roman Riquelme, who faced each other in this fixture numerous times in the late 90s as their sides’ No.10s, and they have now become the focus of Fokohaela’s latest custom creations.

The jerseys of River Plate and Boca Juniors are instantly recognisable, with the timeless red sash on white and the iconic yellow chest band on navy respectively identifying the two Argentinian tribes. And now they have been translated into a lifestyle masterpiece by Fokohaela, who’s reinterpreted the aesthetics of these iconic looks with a flocked fleece presentation, adding a contemporary twist in the form of pockets running down the sash and chest band on each.

On the reverse is where the tribute is paid to Aimar and Riquelme, both of whom famously wore the number 10 jerseys for their sides. That is recognised in the design, with the players’ names featuring underneath, with the nicknames of ‘El Mago’ and ‘Riquelme’ taking place above, created in a laser cut felt with a combination of hand and machine stitching for a perfect finish. The River jumper is also joined by a bucket had, created in the same material, for a nice final flourish.

Sadly looks like these beauties are one-off and not available for retail. Shame...
