Taking the concept of football fashion and ramping it up to all-new heights, designer Ancuta Sarca has revealed a small custom collection of reworked Nike football boots, given new life as dainty slingback heels and knee highs.
With an increased focus of sustainability in design, upcycling has been embraced as a new practice to give fresh life to older products. With this practice at the very heart of everything she does, cult London-based designer Ancuta Sarca has collaborated with Nike on a limited-edition collection of her signature hybrid footwear, combining classic sports trainers and dainty heels. Now, Romanian-born Sarca has revealed a special selection of her reworked heels created from some iconic Nike football boots.
Sarca’s work has previously found favour from the likes of Cher, Kim Kardashian and Rosalía, and the custom football boots-come-heels were apparently created for Rihanna back in January, despite the singer’s connection to PUMA.
The boots that were reworked included a Nike Air Zoom T90 III, the Nike T90 Laser IV from the 2012 Clash Pack, the Nike Tiempo Legend III, and the Nike Speed TD American Football cleat. The Air Zoom T90 III gets the knee-high treatment, with the other three being turned into ‘Kitten Heels’. Imagine a toe punt from one of those bastards...
This isn't the first time we've seen football boots reworked into high-heeled options, with Commes Des Garçons producing pairs back in 2021, once again focussing on Nike. These definitely felt more like a standard boot with a heel just stuck on teh bottom, rather than Sarca's fully transformed kitty heels.
