Two giants of the global game in a stadium that provides a backdrop of concrete beauty, this fixture was headline billing before a ball was played. PSG hosting Bayern Munich in search for a spot in the Women's Champions League semi-finals - it doesn't get too much more majestic than that.
Going into this Women's Champions League Quarter Final trailing by a one goal aggregate score from the first leg, Paris Saint-Germain faced an uphill battle on home soil as Bayern Munich travelled to the French capital. Unfazed and backed by a sizeable support at the Parc des Princes, PSG came out punching and popping in goals from every angle. Leading 3-0 at half time, the aggregate score was washed away and the driving seat was theirs as they embraced a sharp slipstream of sophisticated play.
The second half set a slightly different tone as Bayern went the distance in trying to steal back as much as a game that was slipping away, as they could. Exchanges of play were not short coming as each team littered the opposing penalty area with plenty of play. It was however PSG who cruised in with the upper hand and dealt the final blow to add one more goal to the fest that had featured previous. 4-0 the final score, it's real momentum for PSG to carry with them as the prospect of a final looms.
For Bayern and the rest of the Bundesliga, thanks to Wolfsburg's complimenting defeat, it means that there will be no German side in the final four. While for PSG, it means they'll face Barcelona in the next round. Meanwhile, other semi-finalists Lyon await their fate as Man City take on Fortuna Hjorring tonight, in Manchester. The business end? More like party season.
