Framed #97 | Club América v Chivas

If there was any doubt surrounding the spectacle that is Mexican football, it's time to banish them to the back of the room. Showing the size and scale of such a passionate affair, the 'Super Clásico' between Club América v Chivas brought the party to LA this past weekend.

It's a game that brings sparks on the pitch and one that has a life of its own in the stands. Documenting the fanfare and flavour of such a monumental match-up, the LA Coliseum played host to this party fixture in the first Clasico Nacional played in Los Angeles since 2005. From flags and flairs to banners and beyond, it was a sea of colour from both sets of fans. A derby like no other, it's up there with the best in the world.

While the final score of 1-1 may have fallen short to the chaos that can sometimes ensue, on the pitch it was a game that saw two Mexican powerhouses cancel each other out in both style and substance. Chivas led the game up until the 51st minute, before Club América defied the chewed-up pitch to rocket home a sweet strike from outside the box and bring the contest to life heading into the final third.

Both sides proved worthy opponents and despite the back and forth nature of the attacks and the open style of play, neither team could find the winner. The stands offered perhaps just a glimpse of the everyday fanfare of a Liga MX tie. Mexican football still shines as something wholly unique. Consider Club América v Chivas one for the bucket list.
