With the MLS play-offs in full swing New York Red Bulls entertained Columbus Crew in the second leg of the total goals Eastern Conference semifinal at the Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., on Sunday.
Trailing 1-0 from the first leg it was a tall order for the Supporters' Shield-winning NY Red Bulls. But with the home crowd in full voice behind them, the team came out blasting and had levelled the tie within 17 minutes. The pressing didn’t stop there, and the Red Bulls found themselves in a commanding position in the tie, and it was only at 3-0 that Columbus started to apply some pressure.
But it was too little too late as NY held firm to win the tie 3-1 on aggregate. Following the victory, NY Red Bulls will play Atlanta United in the conference final beginning November 25 at Atlanta followed by the second leg at home on November 29.
