Gearing up for the return of the women’s Champions League in the new mini-tournament format having just won the Coupe de France, Lucy Bronze is relishing being back on the pitch for Europe’s premier competition. But while that is set to be her swan song with Lyon, Bronze is always ready for the next challenge, as we found out when we spoke to her for the latest episode of our ‘Dial Up’ series.
Having won eight trophies in three seasons at Lyon since joining the French club from Manchester City in 2017, it’s fair to say that Bronze’s time in France has been successful. She signed a short-term contract extension to cover the remainder of the tournament after her original deal expired at the end of June, with Lyon chasing a fifth successive Champions League title. Lifting that trophy would be the perfect sign-off to her time with the all-conquering side.
But it hasn’t all been roses for the flying fullback in a career that, early on, was blighted by injuries. Battling against adversity – not to mention keeping both of her legs – she has risen to be one of the best ballers in the women’s game; an integral part of the success that any side she plays in finds. And as we wait to see what the next chapter in her distinguished career holds, we find out all about the events that forged her, how the negative experiences of her younger days have made her the player she is today, all in the relaxed yet candid format that has become the trademark of ‘The Dial Up’.
