The SoccerBible Podcast Ep. 7: 'Woody' (Bastille)

Those tuning into the latest SoccerBible Podcast hoping to get some insight into Newcastle’s target man might be disappointed, for this Chris Wood is none other than die-hard Plymouth Argyle fan ‘Woody’, drummer for indie pop titans Bastille. But he too has a deep-rooted connection to the game that he was only too happy to delve into.

Following on from last week’s episode with Wolf Alice’s Theo Ellis, we stick in the world of music and how football has influenced some of the most talented artists out there. This week we caught up with Chris Wood, AKA Woody from Bastille; a man that has hit heights on a ridiculous scale as he’s brought positive noise to every occasion, notably always representing his beloved Plymouth Argyle along the way.

A powerhouse of his own making as well as passionate member of the Green Army, we chat with Woody about the earliest memories of supporting his club through to the unique situations as well as the success he and his band have found. Broken records, smashed charts the globe all over and a new album to boot – still that love for The Pilgrims remains. Big up the man.

Normally the first response is, ‘nah, but what’s your Premier League team?’ And I’m like, ‘I haven’t got one mate.’ To the point where I live in Brighton and I love the place, but if they get done 10-0 at the weekend it does not affect my mood, whereas if Argyle lose 1-0, I want to smash the house up. I just don’t care about any other team than Argyle."
