Ebere Eze on London, New Balance and Finding Form On and Off the Pitch

Last week, New balance lit up East London for an unforgettable night as Crystal Palace star Ebere Eze hosted the launch event for the Furon v8. Creatives all gathered at Protein Studios in Shoreditch to embrace the spirit of Furon through conversations and experiences. We took the time to speak to the England international, exploring his life as a New Balance athlete.

For one night and one night only, New Balance took over Shoreditch to celebrate the release of the Furon v8, where creatives could come together and join the conversation. Highlighting the evening was a powerful panel talk headlined by none other than Crystal Palace and England star Ebere Eze, who discussed his own personal journey and the power of sport. Whether it's growing a foundation to ensure his beloved Southeast London continues to thrive, launching a new boot or finding form on the pitch at the business end of the season - Ebere Eze always manages to keep shining. We sat down with the man himself to talk over what New Balance and London mean to him…

So Ebere, first of all can you tell us what brings you here today?

Today’s been a really special day actually. Not only launching the Furon v8, but it feels like London is coming together. It’s been really cool, especially with the panel even to see how people view the game differently. The reception has been great, and it’s been really cool insight for people to see what goes into making a boot.

So you touched on London coming out to celebrate the launch of this boot - can you tell me a little more about what it means to be from the capital?

Being from London is special. I knew that was the case from when I was young, you’re exposed to so much diversity and it’s something you probably don’t realise until you speak to people that aren’t from London. It’s very powerful.

What makes New Balance stand out as a brand in the football boot space?

New Balance really means a lot to me, mainly because of the journey we started on. The love I get from these guys is the like the love you get from family - it means so much more than just the boots or trainers etc.

And then only your club form…How does it feel to be on the brink of a historic season for Palace with an FA Cup semi-final looming - especially after a tough period during the season?

It’s been a bit of a weird season to be honest. Lots of ups and downs. But that’s just how football goes sometimes and it was similar last season with different injuries and stuff. It’s the business end of the season now though and it’s a special time of the season. I’m just excited that we still have so much to play for!

I know you’ve got your signature one already, but what celebration are you bringing out if you score the winner at Wembley?

Ah, I feel like you can’t even pre-meditate those things! I can’t call it…it might even be a backflip!

And to round off, we've got some quick-fire questions…

Which of your Palace or England teammates brings the most energy to the dressing room?

Maxancce Lacroix. Easy. He’s just so positive!

What’s your go-to recovery meal?

Pounded yam. Whenever and where I can.

Pick one pre-match song to play for the rest of your career to get you pumped?

I don’t really like to get too pumped up like that before a game. So I’ll go Envious by Sault.

And then to round-up, You're leaving the house in rush for a match or training, which three things are you packing in your wash bag without fail?

Phone (it’s got most things like my bible on there too), eye mask…and my durag!
