From Fútbol to Frequencies: Moisés López On His Creative Evolution

At a young age, Moises Lopez traded the soccer pitch for the stage, channeling his passion into music. But he’s never forgotten his footballing roots. At our recent ON A PLATE event, we discussed the creative parallels between football and music, and what it means to represent Mexico, the USA, and LA through his craft.

Los Angeles—a city of boundless creativity, cultural fusion, and relentless energy. It’s here, at our latest ON A PLATE event, that we caught up with multi-disciplined musician and producer Moisés López. This gathering was more than just a celebration; it was a tribute to LA’s vibrant Mexican-American community, weaving together football, heritage, and artistry in a way only this city can. At the heart of it all? The stunning new ‘México De Oro’ kit from adidas, a symbol of cultural pride and creative expression.

For López, LA is more than just a home—it’s the pulse behind his music. Growing up immersed in its dynamic soundscape and street football culture, his journey has been anything but conventional. From the pitches to the studio, he’s carved out a unique lane, blending discipline, passion, and identity into every track he creates.

Despite playing soccer up until the age of 14, López swapped the centre circle for centre stage, and nothing was ever the same again. The rhythm of the game never left him, though. Instead, it shaped his approach to music—hustle, passion, and a deep sense of identity running through every track he crafts.

"I take everything I learned growing up and put it into everything I’m doing now. Soccer taught me discipline. My city gave me flavour. My culture gave me pride. It all comes with me.”

“I grew up playing soccer—it’s always been a big part of my life, and it always will be,” López tells us. “I still watch it, I love the sport. The discipline and passion I had for soccer carried into my music.”

It’s a story that feels almost destined. Football, like music, is a universal language—one that connects people, cultures, and generations. For López, both worlds coexist, each influencing the other. It’s that fusion of movement and melody that gives his sound a raw, infectious energy.

For many, the shift from athlete to artist isn’t an easy one, but for López, it happened naturally. “It wasn’t planned,” he admits. “I went from a kid playing soccer in the streets to making music on a global level. It’s been a wild ride.”

That journey is defined by an unrelenting drive to create. His music, much like his time on the pitch, is shaped by emotion, precision, and instinct.

“I put myself into every song, every track, every moment. I take everything I learned growing up and put it into everything I’m doing now. Soccer taught me discipline. My city gave me flavour. My culture gave me pride. It all comes with me.”

That pride is deeply rooted in his Mexican heritage. Born to Mexican parents, López represents a generation of artists redefining what it means to be Mexican-American in today’s creative landscape. His music isn’t just sound—it’s storytelling, a reflection of identity, and a celebration of where he comes from.

In an industry packed with talent, López’s approach is distinctly his own. “Yeah, there’s a lot of people doing what I do—but my style is unique. A different energy, a different sound, a different feel. I’m not trying to copy anybody. I’m doing it the Moisés López way.”

That way is built on innovation and an eagerness to push boundaries. He doesn’t just produce music; he builds sonic worlds, layering sounds with the precision of an artist shaping a masterpiece. His creative process? It all starts with a feeling.

“For me, it’s all about creating something new. I’m always trying to push boundaries and bring in a different style—something that hasn’t been heard before. Sometimes I start with the beat, sometimes the artist has lyrics or a melody already, and I’ll build the music around that.”

It’s a process that requires both patience and passion—two qualities he learned early on from football. The same discipline needed to master a sport translates into his music, making each track a testament to his work ethic and dedication to the craft.

"Without Music, Soccer or my culture.. I’d be trying to find my way. Music and culture gave me a path. It gave me something to believe in and chase. Without it, my life would feel incomplete."

More than just a producer, López is hands-on in every aspect of his work. From inception to completion, he builds his music from the ground up.

“Yeah, I produce music from scratch. From the first sound to the final track. I get in there, layer instruments, build it out piece by piece, and make sure it tells a story. That’s the part I love the most—watching it come alive.”

It’s that hands-on approach that sets him apart. His music isn’t just about beats and melodies; it’s about storytelling. Each track carries the weight of his experiences, his influences, his roots.

When asked to imagine a life without music or soccer, López pauses. “That’s a tough one. Without music, soccer, or my culture…I’d be trying to find my way. Music and culture gave me a path. It gave me something to believe in and chase. Without it, my life would feel incomplete.”

That sentiment is what fuels his work. He’s not just making music—he’s building a legacy, creating something that will outlive him. And through it all, his Mexican roots remain at the core.

“I come from a proud Mexican family. My parents are Mexican, and I was raised with a lot of love and pride. Even though I’m second generation, that connection to our Mexican roots is still strong. Our culture is deep—full of heart, community, tradition. That pride pushes me every day.”

Working and creating in LA, especially as a Mexican-American artist, is both an opportunity and a responsibility. “It’s powerful,” López says. “LA is a creative hub, and being a part of that as a Latino artist feels really empowering. There’s so much talent here, and I feel like I’m representing a piece of that. There’s pressure, but it’s a good kind—it pushes you to show up strong and make your mark.”

That’s exactly what he’s doing. At SoccerBible’s ON A PLATE event, surrounded by artists, athletes, and visionaries, López embodies the essence of what the gathering is all about—honouring heritage, celebrating creativity, and forging new paths.

“It feels amazing to be working alongside powerhouse brands like adidas and SoccerBible. I love that I’m a part of something that celebrates both soccer and culture. Especially repping Mexico like this—it’s a dream. This shoot brings together fashion, sport, music, and roots. That’s everything I stand for.”

From the pitch to the studio, Moisés López is proof that passion transcends boundaries. Whether it’s through football or music, the energy remains the same—unstoppable, undeniable, and deeply rooted in identity. And as he continues to create, one thing is clear: the world is only just beginning to hear his sound.
