Umbro have teamed up with streetwear label and renowned Brooklyn nightlife aficionados Kinfolk to curate an athleisure-based collection framed around classic sportswear inspired by the youth of Rio De Janeiro. Throw a bit of collaborative football into the mix and they've got your attention.

The capsule collection leans on the hyperlocal, Kinfolk’s long love affair with internationalism and Rio’s deeply rooted football culture. Classic Kinfolk and Umbro styles are overlaid with cues from the texture of the city such as the wavy pattern on the sidewalks of the Copacabana and the red, white and black of Flamengo.

As one of Brazil’s biggest and most successful clubs, Flamengo was a huge part of Umbro’s 95-year history during the 90s’ and the club’s iconic colours are a perfect fit for the collection. “Rio's street energy and the diversity of the city’s youth is super exciting. Kids dress with style, using what they have and wear it or customise it to make it unique. I also love the incorporation of all the football jerseys in everyday street style. The Brazilian league still has the best football jersey design,” explains Jey Perie, Kinfolk Co-founder and Creative Director.

To shoot the collection, Kinfolk worked with famed Brazilian photographer Ricardo Beliel who captured the culture and atmosphere of the iconic Maracanã Stadium in the 1970s and ’80s.  “Umbro is delighted to have worked with Kinfolk on such an exciting collection that captures the true vibrancy, spirit and energy of Brazilian Street Fashion” added Helene Hope, Head of Global Brand Marketing at Umbro.
