Progressing their relationship and putting their collaborative efforts to a good cause, Thom Browne and the FC Barcelona Barca Foundation have produced a new capsule collection bearing the club’s image to raise funds to be invested in the Foundation’s projects.
In 2018, prestigious US clothing firm Thom Browne inked a deal to become the official provider of FC Barcelona’s off-field tailored and formal wear uniforms. Now Browne is extending that relationship by creating a commercial collection in partnership with the team. The project grew out of both parties’ wish to help to make society better, while showcasing their shared values, among others, of humility, effort, ambition, respect and teamwork.
The special-edition capsule collection between Browne and the FC Barcelona Barca Foundation will launch next week, with 100 percent of the proceeds going to the charity, which helps vulnerable children worldwide through sports and the teaching of life skills. The collection features different items inspired by visual elements associated with the club’s image, including a wool short suit, button-down cardigan, white oxford shirt, tie, scarf, socks, knit hat and pebble grain folio, all co-branded and emblazoned with the FCB crest.
Jordi Cardoner, first vice-president of FC Barcelona and the Barça Foundation, said of the growing collaboration: “We are proud to set up a project like this together with Thom Browne, a leading firm in the fashion world and with which we share the goal of having a positive impact on society. At the Barça Foundation we work hard every day to offer new chances and improve the lives of boys and girls in vulnerable contexts and programs like this help us to continue doing this work. And these projects have taken on new meaning in the current context of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has in so many cases increased the difficulties that these young people have to deal with as well as the capacity of organisations to provide a response.”
The Thom Browne x FC Barcelona Barça Foundation capsule collection launches on 21 October.
