Celebrating its 25th anniversary, British label YMC has linked up with Barca-based brand MEYBA for a mini capsule comprised of two special-edition shirts, inspired by MEYBA’s golden-era with Barcelona that kicked off in 1981.
MEYBA’s return to the game continues to gather pace, albeit with a new approach that at once draws on their rich heritage whilst also bringing something fresh to the future of football fashion, and following on from their super-limited range of football shirts released at the end of last year, they’ve been recruited to help British brand You Must Create celebrate their 25th anniversary in style.
Working closely with sportswear aficionado and MEYBA’s creative director, Neal Heard, YMC has designed two special-edition shirts that celebrate the true spirit of football – camaraderie, passion and style. The first is a traditional, cotton number with ’70s styling – in Barcelona blue and garnet – and it pays tribute to the mighty Johann Cruyff; his player number ‘9’ on the back. For the second, it’s a pink, tie-dye version that acknowledges modern-day performance fabrics, with a YMC sponsor logo emblazoned across the chest and YMC club crest. And the’ 96′ design on the back celebrates the year of YMC’s launch.
“How could I turn down the opportunity to collaborate with Neal Heard and the legendary Meyba?” Explained Fraser Moss, Creative Director, YMC. “Not only a close friend, Neal also shares my love for Newport County football club. Hardly Barcelona, I know, but the club is in my blood. My great-grandfather, Bert Moss, founded the Welsh side back in 1912, for which I will forever feel both proud and grateful.”
Of the collaboration, Neal Heard added, “After a few years away, MEYBA is back in football. And with a dedicated fashion range, too. So, to celebrate, we chose to work with a few of our good friends – and some brands we admire. Top of that list lies You Must Create. Not only a brand we watch with envy, but one run by close pals. YMC’s creative director, Fraser Moss, is not only a lifelong mate but also someone who has as much love for football as we do. So working together provided the perfect opportunity to unite his passion for football and clothes.”
