adidas & Olympique Lyonnais Drop Retro Originals Collection

Rolling the clock back to the 95/96 season, Olympique Lyonnais and adidas have revealed a new adidas Originals collection, which features a remake of the home jersey from that campaign – one of the most iconic in the club’s history.

The 90s seems to be the gift that keeps on giving, with brands only too happy to mine their back catalogues, either for inspiration for current designs, or to faithfully recreate some of the best shapes and silhouettes of the era. And coming firmly from the latter approach, Olympique Lyonnais have unveiled a new lifestyle collection from adidas Originals – the Three Stripes’ department for iconic cultural products from the adidas archive, more often than not represented by the Trefoil logo – bringing a heavy dose of nostalgia.

The highlight of the retro collection is the presence of the home shirt from the 1995/96 season, which was the last to feature the club’s double chevron ‘OL’ crest, used between 1989 and 1996. It sits in its traditional place on the left of the chest, underneath that eye-catching red and blue chequered design that envelopes the shoulders. The chunky collar comes in a triclore look, while the “adidas” branding of the time sits on the right chest. It’s all riding on that white base, which itself features a subtle sublimated graphic.

It’s a faithful recreation that was first spotted on goalkeeper Anthony Lopes as he attended a training session recently.

As well as the jersey, the collection also features a tracksuit from the time, complete with that Trefoil logo that we’re so fond of. Two Originals pieces are then added to the party, including a t-shirt and a matching sweater, which also incorporate the famous symbol to complete that retro look.
