Breaking new ground, Adidas have unveiled the latest member of the award-winning and record breaking adizero family: the adizero adios Pro – a shoe that’s been created by and for record breakers.
Whilst trying to develop their fastest running shoe ever, the adidas design team worked closely with world-class athletes, gaining feedback to develop prototypes and challenge everything previously understood about bending stiffness, energy return, mass reduction and design geometry. Sure, the adizero adios Pro may look like a platform shoe, but that wedge is packing some serious technology to keep you running faster for longer.
The main breakthrough to come from this collaborative process was EnergyRods. EnergyRods consist of five tuned carbon-infused rods, which mimic the metatarsal bones of the foot, allowing runners to maintain their speed for longer, optimising running economy and creating less physical impact on the body. The midsole also includes two layers of LightstrikePRO, adidas’s lightest and most responsive foam material to-date, providing maximum cushioning and more energy storage. Topped off by a nylon and carbon fibre heel plate, which – combined with the EnergyRods – offers stability for the ankle joint, and correct bending behaviour of the runner’s foot for a smooth ride.
“To create the best, we knew we had to work with the best,” explained Robbie Patterson, adidas Footwear Development Manager. “Thousands of kilometres, months of testing, and dozens of prototypes went into something designed to help athletes run faster, for longer – but with the same energy – than ever before.”
Launching with a limited drop in a bold signal coral and white colorway, the adizero adios Pro is available via the adidas app.
