Nigeria can now count Converse amongst their collection of cool, with not one but two new ‘Naija’ designs for the Chuck 70 high top model being made available to customise through Converse By You.
Nike dropped the latest Nigeria collection this week, giving the world another welcome dose of Super Eagles stylings across a wide range of apparel and footwear, including the Air Force 1, the Air Max 95, and the Air Presto. And now going those ranks and adding another level of cool to the ‘Naija’ collection is the Chuck 70 from Converse, available in two separate designs, both inspired by the new Nigeria kit.
The first model features an upper using the eagle feather design seen on Nigeria’s away jersey and on the wider collection’s track pants, while the second option draws straight from the home kit, which fuses the traditional aesthetic of an agbada robe with modern football design. The kit’s pattern was hand drawn and is highly symbolic of Nigerian heritage with nods to nobility and family, and it’s been carried perfectly onto the Chuck Taylor All Star.
‘Super Eagles’ wording can be found on the rear heel strip, while ‘Nigeria’ takes its place on the midsole. The Nigeria Football Federation crest can be seen sitting either on the heel or on the tongue, with the option to tweak it as you want with the Converse By You service.
