adidas Originals & Arsenal Launch Limited Edition TRX Trainer

50 years on, adidas and Arsenal have revealed a limited-edition TRX trainer to celebrate and commemorate the 1971 league and cup-winning side, with just 1,971 pairs being released globally.

1971 was quite the year for Arsenal, as they romped their way to a league and cup double, becoming only the fourth team in history at the time to do so. Now, to commemorate the 50th anniversary of that momentous achievement, adidas Originals have teamed up with the club to produce a limited edition TRX trainer that’s packed with references to the club’s history, from that vibrant colourway to some subtle inclusions on the inside.

Starting with that colourway, and the yellow and navy blue represent references to the kit worn by Arsenal in 1971, when the team beat Liverpool 2-1 after extra time in the FA Cup Final at Wembley. Further details can be seen on the sock liner, which has a pattern taken from the classic Arsenal crest, while there is also the famous cannon logo on the heel, which has also made its triumphant return on the Gunners’ new 21/22 away kit.

One of the Arsenal heroes of that era was Charlie George. The Islington-born forward was only 20 years old when he scored the winning goal in the Wembley showpiece that day. George, now 70 and still living in North London, said: “The 1971 team was a fantastic one to be a part of, and the FA Cup win will always live long in the memory. The feeling of scoring a winning goal in the final is great, and it’s really nice to see the club celebrate that moment 50 years on.”
