adidas Korea & Over The Pitch Produce Limited Edition Fevernova Ultraboost DNA WC

Celebrating 20 years since the World Cup was hosted in their backyard, adidas Korea have produced a special edition Fevernova Ultraboost DNA WC, with a design inspired by the iconic official match ball from the tournament.

The 2002 World Cup was special for so many reasons; the players, the products, the marketing… the fact that it was the first of the new millennium and the first to be hosted in Asia… it was just the perfect storm, ushering in a new era of football. And an iconic emblem of the tournament was the Fevernova: official match ball of the 2002 World Cup. Now, 20 years on from that iconic tournament, Adidas Korea pay homage to the Fevernova with the Fevernova Ultraboost DNA WC, created in partnership with Over the Pitch.

The first World Cup ball to move away from the Tango template, the Fevernova introduced a fresh new look for adidas, with that fiery graphic and gold base colour. Yep, a gold World Cup ball. At the time it was unheard of. The Tricolore from four years ago was revolutionary in that it was the first time a colour other than black and white was introduced in the design, with the graphic taking on a blue colouring with hints of red, all on that white base to tie in with the flag that it was named after. But this? A golden ball? It became iconic in its own right.

For the Fevernova Ultraboost DNA WC, Adidas Korea and Over the Pitch have created a trainer with several nods to not only the ball, but the tournament itself. It arrives in the golden hues of the Fevernova ball, with a special callout to the 20th anniversary on the heel. The flame pattern is lifted straight off the Fevernova for a special tag, while lace additions feature the dual branding of Adidas and Over the Pitch, contained within the hexagonal panel shapes used on the ball’s construction. The location of Korea’s matches features on the insole, while the aglets (the little bits at the ends of the laces) feature the message ‘Dreams come true’ in Korean.
