Set to take the football x streetwear scene by storm this summer, Nike are combining two icons from each world with the impending release of the Air Max Plus ‘Tiempo’, and here we get a first look at the mash up sneaker.
It feels like we’re in the middle of a proper Air Max Plus moment in football right now, with the release of the Mercurial x Air Max crossover, which has dropped in two colourways so far this year (“Volt Purple/Total Orange” and “Black/Pimento”) really kicking the sneaker’s influence in the game onto another level. That was followed by PSG getting their hands on the silhouette, with the Ligue 1 trendsetters putting their own spin on it for an upcoming drop. Now, in a reversal of direction from the Mercurial Air Max Plus, we get a first look at the Air Max Plus ‘Tiempo’, with the iconic football boot travelling away from the pitch with the assistance of the sneaker.
Of course, the Air Max Plus turned 25 last year, but it’s not showing any signs of letting up, instead joining in on what is the 30th anniversary of the Tiempo. Combined with the heritage of the boot, the shoe arrives in a classic “Black/White” colourway. There’s give and take in terms of the construction, with the sneaker’s usual mesh and TPU cage making way for the boot’s leather upper. There you’ll find the classic execution of the Swoosh riding down each side – a trademark of the Tiempo over the years, while stitch marks and a chunky fold-over tongue pay homage to the original Tiempo from 1994. It all rides in on that Air Max Plus outsole, with the silhouette's signature “Tn” badge stamped in the middle as well as on the heel. A tidy ride for the Tiempo’s 30th.
The Nike Air Max Plus Tiempo is expected to drop in summer 2024.
