Darren Bent Interview - Twitter football boots! - 31/10/09
This weekend, footballs most famous Twitterer will be wearing a pair of uniquely personalised Umbro Speciali football boots. Darren Bent loves Twitter so much his new boots have been personalised with his favourite website's logo, by our friends at Pro Direct Soccer.
Ahead of Darren wearing his new football boots, the SoccerBible got the chance to sit down and interview the man who has plenty to say to thousands of online followers...
SoccerBible: Darren a brief background, what do you mean by 'DB The Truth'?
Darren Bent: Its just a nickname I've had for a little while now, between me and my friends we're all called 'the' something, and a lot of people say I tend to speak what I think!
SB: And the idea behind the Twitter boots, what are you hoping to achieve?
DB: I've done a lot of stuff for charity recently, obviously the race to 10,000 and stuff like that, and I've been getting as many people as I can to wear the Speciali and just trying to raise money for charity.
SB: You mentioned the Speciali, so what do you think of your new boots? |
DB: They just have to be light, and as I said the Speciali's are really really light as well as really really comfortable, so you can't complain.
SB: Darren, what's the best piece of advice you've ever been given in your career?
DB: Just stay dedicated by my Dad, just be dedicated and focused and know where you want to go in life.
SB: Who was your biggest influence when growing up?
DB: Definitely my parents, they're the ones who had to take me here, there and everywhere training, getting back late and stuff like that, definitely them two.
SB: Do you have any sporting icons?
DB: I used to be an Ian Wright fan, obviously being an Arsenal fan he was my first icon, but then it moved to Thierry Henry. We've spoken to Ashley Young and Jermain Defoe and they've also said Ian Wright. Yeah definitely, growing up it was him. But then as soon as Thierry Henry came on the scene that was it. SB: Who would you most like to play alongside, who would be your fantasy strike partner? DB: It'd have to be Ronaldo from Barca and Inter Milan, for me he's probably the best |
striker that ever lived. I know he was only around for a short time, but it was his pace, power and his touch and all round game.
SB: You chose Sunderland over other clubs, what are your targets and what do you hope to achieve?
DB: I thought it was the perfect platform for me to start playing football again, and with the squad that Sunderland have already got and the players we bought in we hope we can push for Europe. It's a footballing part of the country and that's what I wanted to be part of.
SB: Do you have an eye on the World Cup squad, do you think if you continue with this form you will be on the plane to South Africa?
DB: I don't know about that yet! But hopefully if I can keep going, work hard, keep my form up and Sunderland can keep winning, then there is no reason why I can't be on the plane. But first and foremost I need to keep playing well for Sunderland, and then we'll take it from there.
